Toronto-based Start Run Radio is cooking up a stew of Funk, Jazz, and Soul, paying homage to masters such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Grant Green, and The Meters while folding in modern New Orleans flavors inspired by Galactic and Stanton Moore.
Organist Alan Zemaitis brought guitarist Evan Desaulnier and drummer Josh Park into the same room, where an instant connection took hold. Over several sessions, the trio explored favorite tunes and workshopped original material, quickly realizing their sound deserved a wider audience.
As the band played regularly across Southern Ontario, they brought saxophonist Bobby Shaw into the lineup – his addition deepened their chemistry and sharpened the material. Within a year, the group had forged a cohesive body of original material—distinct, groove-forward, and unmistakably their own—ready for the studio.
Start Run Radio released their debut album, Mirepoix, in February 2024, and are currently at work on a follow-up record. Stay tuned for new show listings and tour dates.
